Marcel Veilleux
Marcel Veilleux is General Manager of Veilleux Associates, LLC. He has over 35 years of domestic and international experience in the planning, engineering, design, construction and start-up of port facilities and their related rail and cargo handling systems. His projects have included container, dry bulk, general cargo, liquid bulk and multi-product terminals.
Much of Marcel’s work has involved analyzing transportation logistics and simulating the effects of projected cargo forecasts, vessel fleet size and distribution on throughput capacity, berth occupancies, demurrage and other areas of port operations.
Government ministries, multi-lateral lending agencies, private banks and port developers and operators have engaged Marcel to evaluate financing and concession opportunities and he has been directly responsible for the successful negotiation of significant port concession agreements.
Marcel has led the planning and program management of numerous “greenfield” dry bulk export and import terminals worldwide. He has also successfully represented government agencies in promoting new port projects and has been instrumental in introducing viable project development companies to greenfield ports.
He has managed multi-national design teams and completed projects in Australia, Benin, Cape Verde, Chile, Croatia, Dominica, Egypt, Gabon, Guinea (Conakry), Haiti, India, Ivory Coast, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, São Tomé e Príncipe, Senegal, Tanzania, the United Kingdom and the United States—doing business in both English and French. Previously Marcel was principal in the port engineering practices at Cardno, TEC, Roberts & Schaefer and Soros Associates.
Marcel developed a narrated educational module on bulk material handling covering transportation modalities, cargo handling equipment, and terminal and storage design. While created for university students studying port engineering, the presentation provides a comprehensive overview of most elements of bulk port design for all audiences.
